| PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
Welcome back to AYHA! After an extremely successful 2010-11 season filled with an exciting Gazzillo Cup championship, three state championship tournament teams and a state championship team, AYHA is again working hard to better your family’s youth hockey experience.
AYHA is expanding the House League to include 2 Termite groups, a Mite League and a Majors League. With over 80 kids in the Termite program last year, the Termite program was expanded to 2 sessions to open the ice for all those little skaters. AYHA is progressively complying with USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) at the Mite level. AYHA’s Mite level players will have ‘A League of Their Own’. In the early stages of pre-registration, there are enough players for 4 teams and optimistically AYHA may have enough players to form 6 teams! The Majors House League is returning to teach older kids (9-14) to play hockey in a fun-filled, recreational environment.
The travel team offerings will change slightly this season due to the changes in the House League. We are offering 2 competitive teams in the Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam and Midgets, as well as a State Tournament Bound U16 Midget team.
Following the installation of the boards at the Recreation Center last summer, we were expecting to have a leisurely off-season. However, AYHA received bleachers donated from the Berkshire Academy, so our Facilities Director, Matt Mello, went back to work this summer to install the bleachers. If that’s not enough to keep Matt busy, we are also purchased 2 new scoreboards! There are a few more significant projects that are underway, that may not be as noticeable as the bleachers, such as improving the safety by the benches with the addition of plexi-glass behind them and the installation of coin-operated controllers for the heaters by the bleachers. If you are interested in helping with these projects, please contact Matt.
Thank You,
Jeff Willis
AYHA President
