ATTENTION: First Time Players
AYHA is interested in helping the sport of hockey grow in our community. Hockey not only helps build kids it also builds communities. Arriving in July of 2012 AYHA will have 30 brand new complete sets of hockey equipment "starter kits" (excluding skates & stick) available. AYHA is committed to helping hockey grow by offering our young members ages 4 to 8 years of age our OneGoal "starter kits" equipment program. AYHA has been very succesful with this program as we currently have 60 members utilizing this equipment. The equipment can be used for the whole season or until you purchase your own equipment. The program was created to give kids the opportunity to 'try' hockey at a low cost. Each kit contains the protective gear necessary to get on the ice as well as a large hockey bag. A $75 deposit is required and will be 100% refunded when the kit is returned.
The AYHA also provides each child with an "Adirondack Phantoms Youth Hockey" jersey and matching hockey sox to complete the equipment needed to play. You will also need to purchase a hockey stick and skates.

"Rock the House" with the
ADIRONDACK House League
Cross-Ice Program
The Cross-Ice program is targeted for children around ages 4 to 8 years old. Typically,
players have learned to skate in the Termite program and can focus on other skills such as stick
handling, skating with the puck and learning how to play the game of hockey. It is not required
that your child has experienced the Termite program to participate in the Cross-Ice program.
The Cross-Ice program received its name from the concept of splitting up a standard adult sized
ice rink into three sections and practicing and playing games from side to side vs. end to end.
The benefit to having mini-rinks is it condenses the amount of space that a child has to traverse
or skate to get from one goal to the next. It allows more opportunities for players to touch the
puck and creates an environment where players have to skate closer to the other players and
develop better hockey skills.
- Ideal for boys and girls ages 4 to 8 years old.
- All players receive an Adirondack Phantoms Youth Hockey jersey and socks.
- Located at the Glens Falls Recreation Center rink behind the YMCA.
- Meets twice per week, each ice time is 1 hour and 15 minutes long.
- Meets two nights during the week in the early evening typically on Mondays and Fridays.
- Many sessions will be a combination of skating and skills development working towards
game play.
The USA Hockey Cross Ice Hockey section of USAHockey.com provides resources for coaches
and parents to read about proper implementation of cross ice principles as well as materials
detailing the best practices for running cross ice practice and playing.
Mite House League
The Mite House League is for children who have participated in youth hockey for a few years or older beginning players. The players in the Mite House are evaluated in the beginning of the season and are split equally by skill and numbers into several teams. There will be at least 4 Mite House League teams for the 2011-12 season. The teams are assigned a coach and assistant coach and will have a practice to game ratio of 3 practices for every 2 games. Each game is officiated, which also teaches the players the rules of the game such as icing, off sides and penalties that might result in players serving time in the penalty box. Focus on player development will be skating, stick handling and puck control and value of team play.
